LTIT 110 CRISTO SI E’ FERMATO A EBOLI: HISTORY, FILM AND FICTION.
This course, conducted in Italian, will use Rosi’s film Cristo si e’ fermato a Eboli (Christ Stopped at Eboli) as a way to consider the interactive aspects of history, film and fiction toward the construction of a post World War II national identity. During the course of the class we will read the film and novel through a variety of lenses: the Southern Question, national identity, the effects of Fascist ideology. Finally, we will discuss the lasting commentary and effects of the film and novel in today’s socio-political climate.

Grading and requirements:
Six 1 page write-ups/responses in Italian @ 10% = 60%
The class will be broken up into groups for discussion and presentation of
chapters of the novel. Each group will be asked to present some chapters for 20%
of the total grade.
Final quiz = 10%
Attendance and participation = 10%
